"Where self-expression is being used for a greater good.™"

About Us

Patrice Gutrick

Founder & CEO

The name "Jay & Kay" comes from what always drives Patrice to do everything that she does; her two beautiful daughters, Jayla & Kaydence. She has always used various forms of self-expression since she was a teenager for therapy, such as drawing, writing, and painting; she even attempted to create her own fashion trends, such as sewing letters and designs in her clothes when she was in high school, and even cut up her shirts to make them look different. As a survivor of child sexual abuse, Patrice wants to use this self-expression of healing and therapy for a greater good, which was the reasoning behind publishing her first book of poetry "No Longer A Victim: Poems From A Survivor." She wanted to start a non-profit organization then, but realized she was still in bondage from her childhood and continued to suffer from depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.

She started a blog, Blessed & Liberated™, in March 2016 to share more about her story, how she survived her childhood abuse and how her liberation was reached. All of this to now starting the accessories line; she has always been spiritually and purpose-driven, which lead her to tap more into her creative and self-expression side. Her purpose is to inspire other survivors to heal and know that despite any traumatic event, especially one like child sex abuse, they have survived and can thrive. "As a survivor of child abuse, the long-term effects of the abuse are with me daily; however, using self-expression is very therapeutic for me. I want to be an example to others showing them that you can overcome and be victorious." Patrice's desire to inspire others far outweighs any fear she has of the unknown; so with this vision that she feels God, The Creator, has placed in her heart, Jay & Kay Accessories was born. This will not only continue to help her heal, but will hopefully also inspire others to shine through their pain.

Patrice wanted to also create and instill a family legacy of doing things out of love and spreading more of it; while fulfilling her purpose of using self-expression to inspire, not only for her daughters, but also for generations to come. She desired to create a business that kept the environment, society, and her purpose in mind. She believes in giving back and a portion of the proceeds are donated back into community organizations, local and abroad (such as Jamaica & Ghana) that raise awareness for child sexual abuse, homelessness, and/or mental health awareness. Her long-term goal for Jay & Kay Accessories is for it to become a community organization to give back on a much more broader scale. So with this desire of wanting to become her own boss; follow what she felt in her heart and spirit; be different and continue to incorporate a more Eco-conscious approach into her family's life, she created Jay & Kay Accessories. The positive words like love, hope, pretty, and happy are valuable reminders of little things we should feel and be inspired by every day. Patrice also hopes to one day start her own non-profit organization to continue helping other survivors heal on a more personal level. Her faith in God, belief in a higher & divine purpose for this life and drive to be a positive role model for her family and others, is what motivates her to keep going.
